Antonio Plumer was adopted at the age of two in the country of Bulgaria. Antonio shares ancestry with Bulgaria, Western Asia,  and the northeast African-Arabic regions. He grew up in Mt. Airy, MD with his father, mother, and two sisters. His father, Frank, started Antonio at age three on the piano. Since then, Antonio has studied with many music educators including his own father Frank Plumer, Brian Ganz and Dr. Boris Slutsky from Peabody Conservatory, Dr. David Kreider from McDaniel College, jazz pianist, David Kane, and renowned pianist Luis De Moura Castro from Brazil. Antonio has placed in many local and national competitions beginning at age 6, including the American Protege in 2012 and the Washington D.C. Steinway Competition in 2016 and 2017. As a result, he has had the honor of playing at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and the German Embassy. Antonio has participated and performed in international piano festivals including the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy in Virginia, the Texas State International Piano Festival in San Marcos, TX, Art of the Piano in Cincinnati with renowned pianist Awadagin Pratt, the Washington International Piano Festival in Washington DC, and most recently the Connecticut Virtuosi Summer Institute and Festival in Connecticut where he performed Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto V with the Festival orchestra. In the Summer of 2018, he had the wonderful experience of playing at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage as a participant in the WIPF. In the Spring of 2019, Antonio was awarded the winner of the 2018-19 undergraduate concerto competition and performed Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the CUA orchestra. Antonio currently studies piano performance under the tutelage of Dr. Nikita Fitenko at The Catholic University of America.

 

​Antonio studies and performs jazz piano as well. Antonio has performed in three big bands including the Phil Butts' Big Band based in Baltimore, Dale Corn's Big Band based in Maryland, and Catholic University’s jazz band which he assisted in founding in 2018. He had the wonderful experience of performing with Dale Corn’s big band at Twins Jazz Club in 2018. In the Fall of 2018, Antonio started a jazz and improvisation performing series at The Catholic University of America where he performed with his jazz trio and a guest pianist. In 2017, Antonio had the unique and exciting opportunity to perform with the Marine All-Star Jazz Orchestra which took place at the George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium. In November 2019, Antonio and his trio were invited to perform at Alice's Jazz and Cultural Society in Washigton, DC. In the same month of November of 2019, Antonio and his trio were also invited to perform at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria. In the past, Antonio has studied with prolific jazz pianist, David Kane, based in Maryland. Antonio enjoys performing jazz music at his university and elsewhere.

Throughout Antonio's musical career, he has performed at places such as Weill Recital Hall-Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, the German Embassy, The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria, Twins Jazz, Alice’s Jazz and Cultural Society, The Mayflower Hotel, Catholic University of America, Frederick Community College, and other local stages. He has provided music for weddings and private events at places including Marine Barracks Washington, DC, Langley AFB, Fort Myer, Columbia Country Club, The Army Navy Club, and regularly at The Cosmos and Metropolitan Clubs.

Antonio is studying at The Catholic University of America and is pursuing a B.A. in Music with minors in psychology and intelligence. He is additionally studying percussion and is a percussionist in the Catholic University of America Symphony Orchestra.
